Entering the Inner Sanctuary

Enter this sanctuary time by settling down, becoming quiet, and breathing deeply some breaths. Remind yourself you are in the Presence of Love. This place you are entering, within, is the inner Temple, where you are One with God. You may wish to use a mantra, or prayer phrase, follow the breathing in-and-out, or witness the arising and falling of all around you as the manifestation of universal-Spirit. Enjoy these moments of quietly settling and come out when you are ready.

Spiritual Teaching

The concept of a daily “quiet time” was popularized in the 20th Century by evangelical Christians. One does not have to be an evangelical Christian to see the importance of time set aside daily to nurture oneself spiritually and share time with the Divine Presence. Like any relationship that is going to be and remain close, prioritizing time for the relationship is essential. And, as in other relationships, quality time is vital.

If I, for example, say I truly want to be close to another person, but I, then, say, “But I don't have the time,” what am I saying? Am I saying, “I don't have the time”? Or, am I saying, “Being close to you is not really that important to me, after all?” When we say of the Sacred, “You are most important in my life,” is that not saying, “I have time to spend with You, daily, for our relationship is that much of a priority to me?”

Responding

Are you satisfied with the amount and quality of time you are spending in devotion, prayer, spiritual reading, …? What is the best time of day or night for you to have a devotional time? How much time daily would you like to give to your inner spiritual nurture? How might you be consistent in this daily practice?

Love gifts to support the spiritual Work of Brian Kenneth Wilcox are appreciated.

Ten percent of love gifts given in response to this devotional will go to purchasing religious-spiritual resources for inmates at the jail where Brian serves as Senior Chaplain. If you give a gift, please write Brian at briankwilcox@yahoo.com and let him know it was in response to this devotional, to have the noted percentage devoted to the cause to benefit persons in the jail seeking spiritual knowledge and guidance.

Thanks!
